Mathis is a graduate scientist in ecological and environmental sciences from the University of Edinburgh. Convinced by the necessity to combine scientific expertise with public policy, Mathis pursued his studies by completing a double master’s in environmental science and policy at Science Po Paris and Sorbonne Université (UPMC). Being passionate about territorial political action, he carried out two internships during his masters’ gap year. He first worked for ADEME, the French agency for ecological transition, where he contributed to building-up and financing local-led research programs. His then worked at LISIS, a research laboratory specialised in Science and Technology Studies and associated to INRAE, where he studied the role of prefects, the highest civil-servant figures at the sub-national scale, regarding water management in France. He joined Vertigo Lab for his masters’ internship in February 2025.
