Feasibility study for an agroecology training center in Bordeaux
Context
A solidarity project to reconnect the city and agriculture in the Bordeaux metropolis
Hervé Le Naour, a real estate developer in the Bordeaux region, aimed to reconnect urban and rural territories. This partner of Vertigo Lab identified an agricultural plot in Pessac, ideally located and presenting major development challenges.

Assessing the agronomic, economic, and social feasibility of the project
Following studies conducted on the development of impactful and local agriculture, Vertigo Lab conducted a feasibility study for a solidarity training center in agroecology. Vertigo's mission was to assess the agronomic potential of the site to propose impactful agricultural projects that align with the development of the territory.
The initial agronomic analyses of the site confirmed the absence of pollution for organic farming. A territorial diagnosis identified opportunities in terms of distribution and attractiveness.
The results of the technical-economic analysis led to two scenarios: an agricultural incubator to welcome new rural residents; or the creation of a training center aimed at vulnerable populations in a (re)integration approach. The choice was made for the second scenario. A final phase of legal and technical-economic modeling concluded the feasibility study of the project.
BENEFITS
From study to the realization of a solidarity agroecology center
Since July 2017, the "Cultures d'Envol" association has existed to bring this solidarity center to life. Rehabilitation work and the recruitment of site managers are underway.
The project illustrates the capacity of metropolitan territories to host urban agroecology initiatives that combine local production, professional integration, and environmental education.
By promoting cooperation among public, private, and citizen actors, it demonstrates that training and solidarity can become engines of agricultural and social transition at the local level.
