Context

Preserving water resources through PES (Payments for Environmental Services)

WWF France aimed to study the feasibility of an agroecological payment for environmental services (PES) mechanism focused on preserving water resources, particularly in terms of quantity.

service

Identifying agroecological practices that benefit water

The mission assigned to Vertigo Lab initially involved analyzing practices that improve the availability of water resources. It was necessary to understand how certain agroecological approaches can contribute to enhancing infiltration, retention, and regulation of water at the scale of agricultural territories.

The study also focused on analyzing economic models that allow for structuring a payment for environmental services (PES) mechanism centered on water quantity.

BENEFITS

Building an economic model of PES adapted to water-related challenges

The conditions for the viability and deployment of such a mechanism, in connection with the relevant stakeholders, have been defined.

To successfully carry out this mission, Vertigo Lab collaborated with experts: Félix Noblia, a farmer and co-founder of Régénération, and Simon Ricard, co-founder of the national network For Regenerative Hydrology (PUHR).

The + Vertigo Lab

A capacity to combine economic expertise, agricultural practices, and regenerative hydrology to design innovative financing mechanisms rooted in local territories.
