Context
Why integrate bio-inspired solutions in sustainable construction?
In December 2017, Icade announced the launch of Urban Synergies with the ambition to "develop and design authentic cities, places of well-being and harmony, cities that respect their history and heritage." Icade has identified biomimicry as one of the levers to achieve these ambitious goals. To implement bioinspiration in its projects, Icade has enlisted the help of Ceebios, Nobatek/INEF4, NewCorpConseil, and Vertigo Lab.

Assess the socioeconomic impacts of bioinspiration
Vertigo Lab was responsible for the socioeconomic evaluation of the benefits and impacts of the bio-inspired approach adopted in the real estate project. By relying on our ImpacTer tool, we assessed the socioeconomic impact of the project on the territory in terms of wealth created and jobs supported, starting from the design phase, for both construction and operation phases.

Measure the value created by bio-inspired solutions
The study estimated that one million euros spent on average on bio-inspired solutions for French companies generates during the four years of work on the French economy a production of 2,76 M€, an added value of 1,35 M€, and the creation of 19 full-time equivalent jobs.
The results show that one million euros spent on average on bio-inspired solutions for French companies generates strong multiplier effects and significant economic wealth creation and job creation. Indeed, the production multipliers are part of the 25 % of the 64 sectors that have the highest production multipliers.
