Peri-urban agriculture in Bordeaux Metropolis

In Bordeaux Metropolis, peri-urban agriculture is a key lever for preserving agricultural land, limiting soil artificialization, and strengthening local food supply. Approximately 5 500 hectares of agricultural land, or 10% of the territory, remain in the metropolis, supported by an active policy aimed at promoting agricultural installation, agroecological projects, and the development of short supply chains, at the intersection of food, environmental, and urban issues.

The study conducted by Vertigo Lab has several objectives:

Evaluate the impact of the agricultural sector in Bordeaux Metropolis on its territory, at the scale of Gironde and New Aquitaine, both quantitatively and qualitatively;
Identify the specific advantages and disadvantages of peri-urban agriculture;
Assess the potential for agricultural development in the Bordeaux metropolitan area.
