Context
The management of the Var coast within the framework of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) protocol
Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) aims to go beyond traditional sectoral logics to coordinate, within the same territory, policies related to urban planning, fishing, tourism, the environment, and maritime activities. It is based on a cross-cutting approach, founded on consultation among stakeholders, coherence of public objectives, and consideration of long-term ecological balances.
As part of the Action Plan for the Mediterranean (APM), the coastal territory of Var has been selected to establish a Coastal Development Program (CDP), based on the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) protocol.
Thus, the PAC Var serves as a concrete example of the implementation of the ICZM protocol for the Mediterranean.

Through the use of this evaluation tool, Vertigo Lab was able to identify several strengths and weaknesses related to the implementation of ICZM.
Among them, the alignment of policy objectives must be considered.
Indeed, while the evaluated policies are synergistic and do not present redundancy, the analysis of their objectives notably revealed that most management policies do not exchange scientific and technical information regarding ICZM,
Expertise in evaluating coastal public policies and building strategic analysis tools, serving the coherence between local action and international commitments.
