Context
Restoring value to the wetlands of the Garonne
The EPGGAP (Public Establishment Garonne, Gascony, and Pyrenean Tributaries) coordinates water management and natural environments over a large part of the Garonne valley, in collaboration with elected officials, farmers, associations, and state services.
Today, the establishment is facing a significant regression of wetlands, subjected to increasing pressures. In this context, it seeks to better recognize and economically value the ecosystem services provided by these environments.

Assessing the economic services of wetlands
Vertigo Lab supports the EPGGAP in the economic assessment of the services provided by wetlands, relying on the EFESE methodological framework (French Assessment of Ecosystems and Ecosystem Services).
The mission is based on the analysis of 7 pilot sites, representative of different types of wetlands, in order to produce transferable results. It also integrates the impacts of climate change, to better anticipate future developments.
The goal is to provide quantified economic arguments aimed at informing the decisions of elected officials, managers, and planners, and to strengthen the consideration of these environments in public policies.
