Context
Reinforcing the importance of the wetlands of the Garonne
The Public Establishment Garonne, Gascony, and Pyrenean Tributaries coordinates the management of water and natural environments over a large part of the Garonne valley, in connection with elected officials, farmers, associations, and state services.
Today, the area is facing a significant decline in wetlands, which are under increasing pressure. In this context, it seeks to better recognize and economically value the ecosystem services provided by these environments.

Economically assess the services provided by wetlands
Vertigo Lab supports the Public Establishment Garonne, Gascony, and Pyrenean Tributaries in the economic evaluation of the services provided by wetlands, relying on the EFESE methodological framework (French Evaluation of Ecosystems and Ecosystem Services).
The mission is based on the analysis of 7 pilot sites, representative of different types of wetlands, in order to produce transferable results. It also integrates the impacts of climate change, to better anticipate future developments.
The goal is to provide quantified economic arguments aimed at informing the decisions of elected officials, managers, and planners, and to strengthen the consideration of these environments in public policies.
