Etude d’impact environnemental socio-économique des filières des produits de la mer
Context
Improving the environmental performance of marine sectors
The European Neptunus project aims to support businesses and stakeholders in the seafood sector in improving their environmental and socio-economic performance. It aims to promote the sustainable development of the fishing and seafood sector in the Atlantic by providing a coherent methodology for eco-labeling products; and by establishing eco-innovation strategies for production and consumption based on the circular economy.
This project has strengthened the sustainable exploitation of marine resources, based on life cycle thinking and has integrated numerous producers, consumers, and decision-makers.

Generating knowledge to transform the European fishing sector
Vertigo Lab assessed the environmental and socio-economic impact of seafood product sectors. Its work also involved identifying levers and strategic opportunities for transforming current production and consumption models towards circular economy models.
Vertigo Lab contributed to several key works to support the transition of the European seafood sector towards the circular economy. The team participated in a state-of-the-art report on fishing and aquaculture in the Atlantic area, 2 scientific articles on sustainability levers and the application of life cycle assessment (LCA) in the sector, as well as an article on integrating socio-economic dimensions into circular economy practices. These works have enhanced the understanding of the environmental and economic impacts of the sector and identified concrete tools to guide its sustainable transformation.
BENEFITS
Better integrating the circular economy into the seafood product sector
Vertigo Lab's work within the NEPTUNUS project has led to a better understanding of the environmental, economic, and social impacts of the seafood sector.
By developing analytical tools and formulating strategic recommendations, Vertigo Lab has helped stakeholders in the sector integrate the circular economy into their practices and steer their production models towards greater sustainability. These achievements have thus contributed to making the European fishing sector a lever for ecological transition and innovation.
