Designing a territorial strategy for nature for rural municipalities
Context
Nature, a driver of attractiveness and resilience for rural territories
The COVID-19 health crisis has demonstrated the importance of regular contact with nature to ensure well-being in society. In the face of the challenges confronting rural areas, nature therefore takes center stage in the factors determining the evolution of territories and plays a central role in their productive activities.
The National Agency for Territorial Cohesion has designed an engineering offer, the Prospective Factories, which support groups of 4 to 8 territories in co-constructing a vision and an action program to adapt to ecological, demographic, and economic transitions. The Factory aimed to help rural municipalities build a territory project based on nature, as an asset for attractiveness and resilience.
service
Co-constructing territory projects based on nature
Vertigo Lab mobilized its expertise in ecosystem services assessment and territorial planning to assist 4 rural municipalities – Gornac (Gironde), Awala-Yalimapo (Guyane), Bard (Loire), and Beurey-sur-Saulx (Meuse) – in developing local strategies based on nature.
We worked with the ANCT on territorial diagnostics, measuring ecosystem services provided by nature, and the prospective design of a strategic action plan for rural territories.
BENEFITS
Towards more sustainable and attractive rural territories
The results of this Prospective Factory aim to demonstrate that nature is not just a living environment but a true capital of attractiveness, innovation, and resilience for rural territories.
By relying on shared diagnostics and co-constructed action plans, the participating municipalities were able to enhance their natural resources, strengthen social cohesion, and develop economic activities compatible with ecosystem preservation.
