Analysis of environmental issues for the Hine cognac house
Context
Understanding the environmental issues of a cognac house
The company HINE, a producer and marketer of cognac, is indeed very dependent on the agricultural sector, which in turn relies on biodiversity and environmental pressures.
It wanted to better understand its interactions with biodiversity and its environmental impacts.
service
Assessing environmental impacts and dependence on biodiversity
The mission involved assessing environmental impacts by identifying the main impact areas, as well as evaluating dependence on nature and biodiversity.
The methodology relied on the use of three environmental indicators: greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, and land use for cognac production.
A multi-criteria analysis with a hybrid carbon footprint assessment was conducted to integrate the environmental impacts across the entire value chain on a global scale.
BENEFITS
Identifying economic risks and dependencies related to biodiversity
HINE's environmental impacts are focused on scope 3, also known as value chain emissions, which encompass all indirect emissions occurring in the upstream and downstream supply chain of the reporting company.
A significant portion of the wealth created by the group depends on ecosystem services.
The financial risks associated with biodiversity degradation are significant: supply chain disruption risk, soil productivity loss, additional replacement costs, etc.
