Stratégie de valorisation des déchets plastiques issus de la perliculture polynésienne
Context
Reduce and valorize waste, particularly plastics, to make pearl farming more sustainable in French Polynesia.
Beyond the various studies already conducted by the Environmental Department of French Polynesia on the state of waste collection and valorization, and the actions taken over the past ten years in the territory (intuitive prevention in remote archipelagos and establishment of deposit systems, campaigns promoting the use of recyclable shopping bags, compliance with the penal code allowing for fines against polluters, etc.), the issue of plastic debris contamination along the Polynesian coastline has not yet been addressed in detail.
Few pieces of information have been collected on the short- and medium-term impact of marine debris (originating from the islands or from other sources), particularly plastic waste.
However, it appears that a body of knowledge, recommendations, and field experiences exists that allows for the implementation of waste collection and valorization actions,
Experiment with a circular economy strategy for pearl farming
service
As part of the actions taken by the Marine and Mineral Resources Department to reduce plastic pollution in Polynesian waters, Vertigo Lab has been entrusted with the PERLICYCLAB mission to conduct a pilot action,
The pilot action aimed, more specifically, to test lightweight,
The mission allowed us to:
The mission allowed us to:
- Experiment with certain technical processes for valorizing plastic waste;
- Ensure the economic sustainability of a waste plastic collection and valorization sector.
- Lay the foundations for a sustainable plastic waste valorization sector
BENEFITS
PERLICYCLAB was part of a social, technological, and economic innovation approach.
The goal was to think, test, and implement new models for the valorization of marine plastic waste in Polynesia, ensuring the sustainability of the collection and treatment of this waste through a profitable economic activity.
Concretely assist in transforming local sectors, with expertise at the interface between circular economy, territorial innovation, and waste valorization.
